What to explore in the Cape Peninsula

The Cape Peninsula, situated within the beautiful Mother City Cape Town, has fast become an attraction of interest to many all around the world. Starting from the highly sought-after Mouille Point, a suburb situated along the beautiful coast, just after Green Point, all the way to the mountainous and scenic Cape Point. With so much to see and do, we look at some of the amazing locations and attractions the Cape Peninsula has to offer.

The V&A Waterfront

This shopping center is situated on the water’s edge and has become a hotspot for both locals and internationals. Displaying creative and modern architecture, the V&A Waterfront offers variety. Ranging from restaurants, boutiques and brand stores to a busy harbor where one can book a boat trip to Robben Island and explore the medium security prison in which Nelson Mandela served 18 years of his 27-year prison sentence.

The Two Oceans Aquarium

Situated inside the V&A Waterfront with over 3000 living sea animals on display, one can expect to find some of the amazing marine life from deep within the freezing Atlantic, to the vibrancy of the inhabitants of the warm Indian Ocean. Be prepared to do some walking as a visit to the Two Oceans Aquarium may lead up to 2 hours. And if that is not enough, be sure to pop by the I&J Predator Exhibit to see the main attraction the aquarium may have on display. Builders Beach

Experience life up close with Penguins. Located in the Cape Peninsula, near Simon’s Town towards Cape Point, Builders beach is sheltered, made up of inlets between granite boulders, from which its name originated. In an area rich in fish, it has become the perfect home to a colony of penguins. Here, visitors can follow a wooden boardwalk over dunes and through vegetation which will give them the opportunity to take some photos and witness the habitat of these penguins.

Beach Life

The Cape boasts an array of beaches from Mouille Point, through Sea Point and all the way up into Camps Bay. However, Clifton beach has obtained world renowned status and has been named as one of the top 10 beaches in the world. Split into 4, namely 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th beach, each beach is separated by granite boulders and have almost pure white granitic sand. Camps Bay, following Clifton, is known for it’s luxurious lifestyle. Here one can enjoy a smooth cocktail and enjoy the vista or witness the vibrant night life come alive as the sun sets across the lively Camps Bay main road.

Cape Point

Recognized as a World Heritage Site and one of South Africa’s most magnificent sightseeing and tourist attractions, a Cape Point experience promises to deliver nothing but absolute amazement! With views so breath-taking it is easy to see why it is held in such high regard. Covering 7750 hectares, the Cape Point Nature Reserve falls within the Good Hope Section of Table Mountain National Park, consisting of fynbos, wild coves, glistening tidal pools, valleys, indigenous plant species, flora and fauna and a wide variety of animal life. Surely this experience is not one to be missed.

A visit to the Cape is not complete without visiting this beautiful attraction. Visitors can either hike to the top or experience the state-of-the-art cable way with it’s revolving floors. With a 2km long pathway and many vantage points, witness the exquisite views over Cape Town, Table Bay, Robben Island, the Cape Flats and the Cape Peninsula itself.
